Nestled in the heart of the city, The Eagle & Ball is more than just a pub—it’s a living piece of Birmingham’s history. Built in the 1840s, The Eagle & Ball first opened its doors as a backstreet public house in the 1850s. During this time, Birmingham was booming with industry, and pubs like ours became important social hubs for the local community.
From Moby Dicks to The Eagle & Ball
In the 1960s, the pub underwent a transformation and was renamed Moby Dicks. While the name changed, its role as a gathering place remained the same. Today, the building has been beautifully restored and proudly carries its original name once again—The Eagle & Ball—honouring its rich heritage.
A Grade II Listed Treasure
As a Grade II listed building, The Eagle & Ball has been carefully preserved and incorporated into the modern Birmingham City University campus. This blend of old and new creates a unique atmosphere where history meets contemporary city life.
A Pub with Stories to Tell
From Victorian patrons to modern-day visitors, The Eagle & Ball has seen generations pass through its doors. Some even say that infamous local figures may have kept an eye on the pub back in the day… Come and experience a true piece of Birmingham’s past for yourself.
